Essential LV

...essential? How essential is essential? Fashionistas know that in fashion speak essential means MUST-HAVE or ...just go crawl under a rock...don't come out...don't show your face TILL YOU HAVE IT!!! (Ok maybe I'm overstating it just a teensy  bit but I'm sure you get my meaning). This essential means DON'T travel without it!

The LV holdall (LV call it the keepall) is without a doubt one of my very best value purchases. If you've ever dreamt of owning one, let me tell you, it lives up to it's promise at all levels. It's roomy, (all you need if you're going for a weekend break..and then some), its squishy so can be easily stowed away when empty and always gives a veneer of elegance and style even if all you;ve got inside is dirty underwear!

I bought my first .....in Uni (in another life!), where I used it to stylishly haul my law books around.. It served me well for like...ever, then my daughter took it over at the age of 17 and rocked it for a few more years before she had the pleasure of receiving her very own with her initials engraved on it for her 19th birthday.

Long before then I had moved on to what Louis Vuitton calls the Pegasse roller and what we affectionately in our house call, the dragee bag. I guess my lifestyle had changed. Long gone were the slapdash impromptu weekends where you just threw one or two things into you're hold all  and then you were off or maybe its 'cos

I didn't travel so lightly anymore. I had a good deal more possessions to carry err...like...children! Any way the luxury of dragging your posessions stylishly behind you on two wheels was just irresistible.

(You have to remember that the dragee bag was a relatively new concept then. The idea  started with school children. Back then, only toddlers and tiny tots had the luxury of dragging their stuff to school.)

I guess I wasn't the only one to find it irresistible. It really is a a very desirable object and certainly does pass the look test. People tend to stare a lot when you're carrying an LV hold all or draggee bag. The only other item that produces the same catatonic effect is the Hermes Kelly or Birkin. The stare is not quite a fashion stare, as in "that's cool; I wonder where she got that?", its more of a soulful lustful stare as in" It's not fair, I want one of those!"

One of my more memorable style moments was when an American woman (don't ya just love Americans?), came up to at Heathrow Airpot and gushed " I just luuuv you're roller" I was secretely pleased and smiled politely. There's nothing more reassuring  than when youre style choice has been affirmed by a total stranger! It's like you've been admitted to the secret brotherhood of good taste (in this case a membership of two!)...well at least someone somewhere thinks you're cool. Daft? yea I know but we all love it c'mon be honest what's not to love?

The holdall, the roller and the speedy are the stars in the LV pack. They never date but only if you stick to the monogrammed version. If you're the blinging type you could opt for the monogram vernis in RED! it won't  date so well but looks like a lot of fun, I never did like the chessboard pattern Damier Ebene canvas...very tiring... The Monogram however is always elegant and full of mystery...whenever I see a woman with any of these LV monogram pieces I'm  thinking ...hmmm I bet she has a story to tell.

An LV Pegasse will set you back between 1,500-1,800 depending on the size and 850 will do just fine for the holdall!
